Please use public parking for class visits.
Parking for Thursday night is in the Bell Tower Deck on Bell Tower Drive, off South Road.
Parking for Friday is at the Carolina Inn. Overflow parking is in the Morehead Lot at the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center, 250 East Franklin Street.

We know how much you enjoy sitting in on classes and reliving one of the many rich parts of the college experience. We have put together a mix of offerings we hope you will enjoy. Please note that we are visiting on the last day of classes so some of you will observe student presentations.

This is your chance to share your business knowledge with students. Some are about to enter the workforce. You will be paired with students interested in your individual experiences as a professional. This is being sponsored by our BOV Career Services Committee.

Chancellor’s Water Lecture
Chancellor Carol L. Folt will present a lecture titled, Water in our World: Past is Present, Future is Fragile, But We Can Make a Difference. It highlights a topic that has been a focus of the University for more than a year.

Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Black Culture and History

6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Reception
It has been more than 10 years since this free-standing building opened on the UNC campus. Now, it is the preeminent site in the nation for the critical examination of African and African-American diaspora cultures. It provides intellectual and cultural programming that is both timely and informative. We will be able to have our own Stone Center experience that will include a spoken word presentation by EROT (Ebony Readers/Onyx Theatre) as well as a private viewing of the current Robert and Sallie Brown Gallery exhibit which is called Ritual + Time Travel = Rebirth: Images and Words by Michael Platt and Carol Beane.

Lowry Caudill, BOT Chair Charles “Chuck” Duckett, BOT member After hearing about plans for the day from our BOV Chair Rick Margerison and receiving greetings from Trustee Chair Lowry Caudill, we will spend time with Trustee Chuck Duckett who will lead a conversation about a topic that has drawn attention across the Carolina Community, the William L. Saunders Hall building name.
10:00 a.m.	Art vs. Aid – New Approaches to Global Cultural Activism Cherie Rivers Ndaliko is an interdisciplinary scholar who studies radical arts interventions in conflict regions of Africa through ethnomusicology, film studies and cultural theory. She focuses on film and music as catalysts of movements of socio-political transformation as well as on the ethics and aesthetics of humanitarian aid in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. She advocates for socially engaged scholarship and was a pioneer of Harvard University’s Social Engagement Initiative during her graduate training. 10:30 a.m.	Creating Sound – More Than Current Sound Effects UNC Computer scientists and PhD students in UNC’s GAMMA group, hope to mimic real sound creation and the way sound travels through space. More than just reproducing how someone hears a sound, they can help the listener decide if the sound is creeping up from behind or swishing by from the side. Their technology and research are so advanced that they have attracted the attention of Disney, Intel, Samsung, Arup and the U.S. Army, among others. 11:00 a.m.	Carolina’s students – what’s important today The personality of the UNC campus not only reflects issues facing society, but sometimes students bring attention to topics that become societal issues. Music by UNC SAMAA
UNC SAMAA is the only South Asian fusion a capella group in the state. Founded in 2011, the co-ed student group combines music ranging from pop to alternative with traditional Indian and Bollywood music using only voices as instruments. Its members range from classically trained to those who just enjoy singing.

A conversation with our Chancellor
We will have an opportunity to talk with Chancellor Folt as she completes her second year of leadership at UNC. Reception with UNC Young Alumni Leadership Council (YALC)
We hope you will join the Young Alumni Leadership Council for a cocktail reception. The event will welcome YALC members to campus for their annual meeting and feature a private screening of a Fulldome planetarium show at 7:15 p.m.
The YALC was modeled after the BOV to foster the important connection between UNC and its recent graduates. Council members help promote the interests and welfare of the University, plan and coordinate young alumni events throughout the regions they represent, and work alongside the Office of Development and Carolina Annual Giving to promote alumni giving and positive alumni relationships.
